Our favorite thing at the end of a busy day is to get home and grab a bottle of wine, light our fire pit, and sink into our big captain's chairs and feel the stress melt away as we stare into the fire and sip some Pinot! There is something very primal about gathering around a roaring fire and recounting the highlights of the day’s hunt! Millions of years later, what’s really changed?
Fire tables and fire pits can be bespoke site-built by your contractor or can be a free-standing factory-built fire pit which can be customized in its shape, height, size, and materials & finishing. You have loads of choices and are only limited by how much space you have! Looking for a ready-made solution? We have so many choices for you! Metal, concrete, porcelain? – yes, yes, and yes! A place to set down a plate of olives or a glass of wine is sometimes a great help to the use of the gas fire pit.
Building your own gas fire pit? Did you know that we can supply the burner and ember materials? Call us to discuss your project, there are things we can suggest that you’ll thank us for, but we need to be involved early in the design phase. We have special venturi-burners engineered to create twice the visible flame with half the gas usage by mixing a precise amount of air into each flame port.
At Villa Terrazza, we’ve done custom burners and ignitions systems that feature flip-a-switch lighting systems and combine automatic re-lighting in case the flame gets blown out by the wind. We offer some very large burners, and you don’t want to be lighting these with a long-handled lighter! We normally incorporate commercial hot-surface ignition systems into our custom burners, and we normally add step-timers into our custom fire systems. This way, if the fire is forgotten after a couple of hours it turns itself off, saving gas.
Not everyone wants to build in a custom fire feature. We have many manufactured fire pits that are available in a wide variety of shapes, heights, sizes, and finish options. Some are metal, others are concrete, and others feature ceramic or porcelain tile tops. We always share with our clients what we’ve learned over our many years outfitting people’s outdoor spaces. Concrete fire pits are a great look, very contemporary. They have one major downside, however – concrete’s porosity. Spill red wine on it or drip grease and don’t notice it for a while? This could pose a stain problem! Concrete can discolor and stain and needs to be sealed a few times a year with a high-quality sealer/enhancer to render it less porous.
We have become huge fans of the porcelain tile tops on the fire pits and tabletops offered by one of our favorite manufacturers - OW Lee. They are a 3rd generation family-owned business located in Ontario, CA, and they truly do it right! These folks pretty much invented the residential fire pit, and they are still very passionate about what they do. The porcelain tops look great, are available in many different styles, shapes, and heights. Best of all, they are highly impervious to staining – very important here in the Wine Country where red wine is a big part of all our lives! We might not notice the spill for a few days…. All OW Lee fire pits come with both NG and LP gas orifices, so it’s a simple matter to connect one to a gas line instead of using an LP tank.
